I love a good party, but one year, I just felt a bit tired and overwhelmed. I’m sure that many moms can relate to this feeling, right? You still have your creative juices flowing, but this year the kids really kept me busy. As a family, we decided we were going to do something different for Evan’s birthday. We packed our bags and headed to Universal for my older son, Evan!
A friend was celebrating her daughter’s 1st birthday. Her vision was to create a garden full of cupcakes that reflected her color scheme. She had an array of pastel colors which included pale pink, violet, and white. She enlisted me to create flowers on top of her cupcakes. The cupcakes and all the other details of this party were so special!
I’m a creator at heart, so it’s not in me to feel like I have to be at either my phone or computer all the time. Luckily now I use a great scheduling app for Instagram and Pinterest called Tailwind. Before, I would set up Instagram posts on Tailwind, but then I still had to be on the phone at the time Tailwind suggested to post these photos. I would either feel like I had to constantly watch my phone so I didn’t miss these alerts, or I would get busy with life and forget to post at the most optimal time. NOT ANYMORE… Tailwind now has auto posting!!
Cupcakes have so much potential to be spectacular and are FAR less work than a cake. So… have fun with your cupcakes and show off your beautiful color scheme and theme of your party. Feel free to buy cupcakes, frosting, or the embellishments for the top of the cupcake.
My favorite bento box treat… Octopus hot dogs! Hot dog octopuses create the most clever sea-themed lunch! Of course, I had to include goldfish with the octopuses. Edamame steamed with a little sea salt gives your kids healthy options in their lunches. My children love edamame, and I’ll bet yours would too!
For Evan’s 5th birthday, we hosted a movie screening party. We purchased an outdoor movie screen that we placed in the backyard. Evan’s guests were the first to view our three short movies! Some of the kids at the party were stars in the short movies; it was only fitting these stars walked the red carpet when they arrived to our party!
Meeska Mooska Mickey Mouse! For Evan’s third birthday party, we transformed our house into the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Our little three-year-olds enjoyed the party so much that they came as kids and left as Mouseketeers!!
When Evan was two, he was obsessed with trains. All Aboooooard! Our house became a train wonderland! We rented a train that offered kids rides around the neighborhood, crafted a mini train track inside our house, and had food and beverage train stations. Everyone said that it was TRAIN-TASTIC!!
Before diving into this project let’s break it down. Brie is a type of soft cheese and en croute simply means wrapped in pastry. The phonetic pronunciation is bree on kroot. A brie en croute consists of a round of brie cheese, topped with jam, and then wrapped in puff pastry. Place all of these components in the oven. The brie cheese gets soft and melty and the pastry gets brown and crispy… Yum! Making a brie en croute is such a fun way to personalize your food for a party. Since we had an UP party, we wanted to make this Brie En Croute with the UP letters. The possibilities for letters and symbols are endless!
Arrange your own flowers using one or two colors from your theme rather than purchasing a pre-made arrangement. For example, my flower choices for this party were hydrangeas and peonies in various shades of pink with white for contrast.
