DIY mason jar centerpiece decorations

May 17, 2019 · Leave a Comment

Teacher Appreciation day was on our horizon, and I wanted to do something special for my boys’ teachers.  I always feel happier around flowers and thought it would also brighten the teachers’ days to have some lovely flowers.  When I thought about the vase, I wanted to do something that was not only personalized with a monogram but also reflected the teachers’ favorite color of pink.  Discover how to easily make these vases for someone special or keep it around to decorate your own home.

I started with clear mason jars.  Pink lids can be found on Amazon to use in case the recipient wants to use this mason jar as a container instead of a vase.

Paint your mason jars with a foam brush and chalk paint.  Chalk paint is ideal because you do not need to prime your surface and it will stick to most surfaces.  Chalk paint also dries to a nice flat finish.

Once the chalk paint dries, cut out the monogram on your Cricut Explore Air Machine using Cricut Design Space.  I was able to find monogram letters separate from the frame and then fit them together.  Search for this monogram by clicking Images, and then search for monogram.

Find the frame by searching images for frame and then scroll down to find the frame you would like.  Insert the frame and monogram into your design space.  Make sure that the monogram size fits nicely into your frame.  Cut out the monogram and frame on your favorite card stock.

Once you insert the frame, it will be added as more of an oval shape.  I wanted my frame as more of a circle shape.  You can change this shape by clicking the unlock button on the lower left of your selected box around your image.

It’s time to attach your monogram and frame to the mason jar.  This is achieved by using Mod Podge.  Paint the mason jar with a layer of Mod Podge and attach your monogram and frame.  Layer another layer of Mod Podge to the top of the monogram and frame.

My glitter cardstock was extra thick so it had a tendency to come up (regular cardstock will probably not have this problem).  I used plastic silverware to pin the cardstock down.

Let dry and Ta Daa– a transformed mason jar ready for a gift, centerpiece, or decoration!
